Lanolips 101 Ointment hits Hong Kong – and we love it!

Style & BeautyPost Category - Style & BeautyStyle & Beauty

One of my favourite things in life (and no jokes about how sad said life is please!) is multi-purpose make-up. Eye shadows that double as highlighters, lip stains that masquerade as cheek colours, Vaseline smeared everywhere you can think of (and a few more places beside)… you name it, I’ve tried it! And now I have a new favourite to add to the list – Lanolips 101 Ointment.

It’s fair to say that Lanolips is nothing short of a cosmetics cult; I’d already heard dozens of rave reviews proclaiming this a new holy grail in the field of make-up miracles. Yet it had never been available in Hong Kong… until now! So hurrah for Joyce Beauty for bringing the cult over to our shores!

The brand hails from Australia, and was inspired by the sheep farm where creator Kirsten Carriol spent her childhood. Lanolips 101 Ointment is made up of 100% ultra-pure medical-grade lanolin, a natural substance taken from sheep’s wool and long known as nature’s wonder moisturiser, which meant it often cropped up in face creams in the past. Carriol spent six years perfecting her formula for the ultimate nourishing lip balm, which would make lips super-soft, lush and glossy but using completely natural ingredients throughout – and judging by the results, she definitely succeeded! Trust me, if I could smother this stuff everywhere, I would!

Lanolips 101 comes in a small tube that you squeeze the ointment out of, though it’s actually more like a very thick translucent gel or wax, like a more luxurious Vaseline! It’s similar to Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream but without the scary orange colour, and in my opinion, works hundreds of times better too (plus, unlike Arden, was actually created for use on humans as opposed to horses!). There’s a slight scent, directly down to the fact that this stuff is pure lanolin, but it’s not at all unpleasant or off-putting.

If it’s a little cold, the balm may need a bit of a the heat from your fingers to soften it, but otherwise, it’s meltingly smooth, soft, rich and gloriously luxurious, but without feeling like its overpowering or smothering your skin either. Chapped or flaky lips practically lay down and admit defeat in its silky clutches! The light glossy finish means it’s great for an easy au naturel look too.

And the best bit? It’s absolutely not just a lip balm. This stuff is good to go anywhere. Dry cuticles, rough elbows, cracked feet, itchy skin, flaky noses, sore nursing nipples… Lanolips 101 does the business anywhere and everywhere! It’s 100% natural goodness, so it’s a treat on both sensitive skin and babies too, and is one of the few products totally safe for newborns too. I had a few stubborn patches of dry skin (which were actually starting to horrify my boyfriend – ‘Why is your face flaking off?!’) but a few quick and easy smears of Lanolips settled things down wonderfully and come any cold winter climates you may encounter, this is an absolute essential.

The sheer convenience, multi-purpose-ness, versatility and fantastic results from just one little tube of wonder ensures that Lanolips 101 Ointment should become a bathroom cabinet staple for mamas everywhere. Meanwhile, the all-natural factor means you can use it anywhere and on anything (common sense withstanding!) with absolutely no qualms whatsoever!

The only downside? Given you’ll want to rub this everywhere, one tube just isn’t big enough! Now can someone create Lanolips 101 Ointment vats please?!
