Le Spa by Jan – Perfect pampering for a Pregnant Mama-To-Be!

MamaPost Category - MamaMama - Post Category - Fitness & BeautyFitness & Beauty

My heavily pregnant friend and colleague Amanda was in dire need of special TLC. Having worked almost right up to her due date, feeling stressed and exhausted by pregnancy, what better way to kiss goodbye to work than treating her to a lovely pampering session for her baby shower?

So it was that three ladies (mother, mum-to-be, and child-free) stepped into the cool and calming Le Spa by Jan, the perfect antidote to the muggy, sweltering HK June weather. This little, independent spa right in the heart of Central gave us a wonderfully warm welcome. Soothing cups of lemongrass and ginger tea awaited us, as we changed into slippers, before being taken to our treatment rooms.

Our package included a full-body Swedish massage to encourage lymphatic drainage (with a special pregnancy massage for the mum-to-be), facial and soothing eye-treatment. The two-and-a-half-hour treatment was deeply relaxing and refreshing.

The facial used Thalgo products, rich in marine minerals, to provide deep-cleansing (essential in this weather) and hydration. The eye treatment used Thalgo eye serum to help diminish dark circles, reduce puffiness, and iron out those crow’s feet, perfect for a tired mum! A soothing collagen mask was applied to finish the treatment, with gentle aroma massage to stimulate those exhausted skin cells.

The spa’s great draw is their qualified therapists who have all trained at top 5-star hotels, so you can be sure you are being given the million-dollar treatment. My therapist, Ganga, was gentle and calming – very adept at massage, with little touches that made such a difference. As someone who has trained in massage therapy, I can honestly say it was one of the best treatments I’ve had in Hong Kong, but at a fraction of the cost. From start to finish, every detail and care was given to us. Amanda was very happy with her pregnancy treatment, so much so that she added a few additional extras to her package at the end. We floated out, feeling refreshed and calm, and ready to enjoy the rest of the day.

Good news, Le Spa also offers mid-week Happy Hour specials for fast, lunch-hour pampering so there really is no excuse to not treat yourself, mums!

We've been looking for clever ways for the whole family to eat more veggies.... purple pasta might do the trick! ⠀
Insta-Worthy Sweet Potato Pasta 💜
1 cup of purple sweet potato, or orange (which is easier to work with texture wise i find) steamed or roasted ⠀⠀
1-1 1/2 cup of unsweetened plant milk (but we'll use regular)⠀⠀
1 clove of roasted garlic ⠀⠀
1-2 tablespoon nutritional yeast flakes ⠀
1 tablespoon of olive oil or vegan butter ⠀
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice ⠀⠀
1 teaspoon smoked paprika ⠀⠀
pinch of sea salt (to taste) ⠀⠀
pinch of black pepper (to taste) ⠀⠀
Blend all your ingredients in a high speed blender until smooth, adjusting the thickness to your liking by adding less or more (plant) milk. Adjust seasonings to your preference also, and serve over freshly cooked pasta. This sauce is best enjoyed right away, as it can clump and change in texture after being refrigerated.⠀⠀
