Looking for new and exciting ways to engage your enthusiastic crawler or wobbly but curious toddler? Malvern Playgroup has a whole host of fun activities for your little one. These adult-accompanied playgroup sessions for children from 6 to 24 months are held in the premises of Malvern College Pre-School (at both campuses – Island West and Coronation Circle).

The Malvern Playgroup is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach which believes that the “environment is the third teacher”. So, there is a great deal of attention to how the playgroup learning environment is designed. The playgroup children have access to the pre-school campus, including a full range of educational toys, resources and other tools for learning. Want to know more? Malvern Playgroup is holding a Virtual Open Day via Zoom on Saturday, 27 June 2020 for prospective parents.

After a short introduction, you and your child will get to sample a taster playgroup session to know exactly what Malvern offers! To help parents recreate the Malvern experience at home, a material kit will be prepared for them. Parents can pick this up from either campus prior to the virtual open day.

There are many advantages of enrolling your child in a playgroup. Even as your child becomes more confident and independent, attending playgroup together is a strong bonding experience for you and your child. Most parents notice their child’s social and emotional skills developing well along with improved cognitive awareness, expressive and receptive language skills. It also enhances the child’s self-care skills and allows for an easy transition into un-accompanied pre-nursery class.

Playgroup activities generally involve music and movement, storytime, messy play and baby yoga (a host more!). While following a schedule that includes circle time, storytelling, free play and tidying up, playgroup helps to set a routine for both parents and children.

Malvern’s Playgroup programme is tailored to the individual needs and interests of each child, with emphasis on parent involvement. It provides parents with fortnightly playgroup newsletters so they can track their child’s progress. Teacher transcripts, photos and videos create stronger learning links between school and home.
