As someone who already normally suffers from back pain, pregnancy has been an added strain to my spine, so I was quite excited for my prenatal massage appointment at the new – and super chic – Flawless spa on Wyndham St.

And if pregnancy back pain wasn’t enough to put a downer on my day, it was also a Typhoon 3, and I found myself stuck with a broken umbrella in the pouring rain on Wellington St, just down the road from the spa! As I hate being late, I called Flawless to let them know my situation and my fear of trekking up – and slipping on – Wyndham St, and to my surprise they kindly offered to send someone over with an umbrella to pick me up – what a total life saver, and a great start to my spa experience!

After arriving at Flawless drenched from the rain, I was greeted by their friendly receptionist and offered some tea and towels to dry off. After having settled down, my lovely therapist Kenna came over to introduce herself and to tell me a bit about the 60 minute prenatal massage I was booked in for.

Now ready to start the pampering, Kenna led me through a funky fuchsia coloured door (which made me feel a little Alice in Wonderland-like) to my treatment room. Before leaving the room for me to change, Kenna and I chatted a bit about my pregnancy to see whether I had any particular concerns, aches and pains and also emphasised that the rose massage oil she was going to use was completely safe for use during pregnancy. As this was my first-ever prenatal massage, this attention to detail at the earliest stage reassured me that my bump and I were in good hands.

Once ready, Kenna helped me lie down on the massage bed on my side and with a pillow placed between my legs and a towel to hug, I felt like I was in complete bliss already! My massage was just as good – it was the right amount of pressure and the delicious smell of rose throughout was so relaxing, I could literally feel my stresses floating away. What struck me as great was that – at all times – Kenna made sure my bump and I were comfortable.

6o minutes went by so quickly it was a little hard to get back to reality, even with the cup of delicious tea offered to me post treatment. Kenna and I had a chat afterwards and she introduced me to the massage oil used, which apparently is also great for preventing stretch marks during pregnancy. As tempted as I was to buy myself a bottle, I had recently splurged on a bunch of creams for that purpose already so it seemed a bit silly to buy more. Lucky for me, there was no hard sell so I didn’t feel pressured into buying it.

I left Flawless feeling relaxed and chirpy and I know where I’ll be spending a huge chunk of my last 4 months of my pregnancy! Pregnant mamas – definitely give it a try!
