Sidewalk: The Cutest Cafe with the Hippest Homewares in Hong Kong!

Style & BeautyPost Category - Style & BeautyStyle & Beauty
It is always a pleasure to visit a store that has original and exclusive pieces. Gaye Gibson, the founder of Sidewalk in Gough Street, has drawn on her experience of living in Asia to bring to Hong Kong a collection of the most desirable pieces that you could every want for yourself and for your home.

From the jewellery collection by Lucy Ansell and Saffron Lime in gold and semi-precious stones, to the collection of handblown glass in seven different hues, colour and style is the key to Sidewalk’s selection.

The textile collection is also a standout. I love the handmade silk quilts from India and the graphic qualities of Thornback and Peel’s linen napkins.   They even stock exclusive New York designer, Madeleine Weinrib’s  collection of cushions and rugs.  Stacks of soft pashminas in rainbows of colors are also covetable.

The nose is tickled by gorgeous scents produced by a selection of candles and home fragrances by Cochine, Penhaligon’s of London, Acqua de Parma and Lollia. For me the total sensory experience was rounded out by a cup of barista Cami’s Vittoria coffee together with a delicious cupcake from Sift. Sidewalk also plays host to  contemporary art shows.  This month don’t miss the photography exhibition, Momentum, by Laurent Segretier.   The  French artist has worked on installations for Lane Crawford as well as for my favourite Parisian fashion store, L’Eclaireur in Paris.  Famous for his portraits, Segretier uses original techniques to present  an unconventional version of reality.  The interplay of light and shadow, as well as heavy pixelation,  creates a a dreamy and hypnotic atmosphere approaching abstraction.
