Styling Session with Claire Edwards of Image Unlimited

Family LifePost Category - Family LifeFamily Life

Claire Edwards of Image Unlimited will be the stylist at our May 31st Evening Mama Meetup, helping us get our fashion mojos back with some advice on combining style and motherhood (and yes, it can be done!). Sassy Mama blogger Julia had a trial session with Claire to see if she could make more from her current wardrobe, and to get a little style pick-me-up…

After a rough start to 2011, I decided to have a bit of a ‘me’ revamp. I find that after all sorts of dramas, focusing on other projects usually helps me re-focus and start afresh. It started with a new hair cut and style, then continued with my wardrobe. So here I am booked in to see Claire Edwards, from Image Unlimited to find out my style recipe. Hopefully we can also come up with some ‘go to’ outfits for different occasions too!

Prior to Claire’s visit (apart from doing a pre-stylist cull of the wardrobe!), Claire asked me to do some homework. Don’t worry, this isn’t the dreaded homework you got at school, this is fun and very insightful. Make sure you leave enough time before you see Claire to really ‘do your homework’ so to speak, as this is very important during your consultation.

Claire arrived looking very stylish as usual but what strikes you the most after you sit down with Claire, is her manner. She doesn’t judge you and give you that once over as soon as she meets you. Quite the opposite, she’s very down to earth and really tries to get to know the person underneath all the clothes. As a mother herself, she also understands what it’s like to run errands and do the school pick up while still staying stylish and put together. We ran through all my homework which was a real eye opener and made me think about what look I’m trying to portray when I dress … Or what look I hope to portray after our meeting!

Some of my style recipe words we came up with are “professional’, ‘confident’, ‘classic’, ‘sophisticated’ and ‘timeless.’ Hopefully we have achieved some of these with a selection of my new outfits (all from my wardrobe, without having to buy a thing!). I think this is the misconception about stylists or good stylists, that they will make you throw out nearly your whole wardrobe and then make you spend a fortune on a new one. With Claire this certainly isn’t the case, we came up with many ‘go to outfits’ from travel to drinks/date night as well as casual lunches and informal business meetings.

All of these outfits are also written down, piece by piece in your very own personalized style folder. I have a few things to shop for to fill the gaps, but overall I’m very happy with what I have now got to work with (I’m sure my husband is also happy about this!). As someone who needed a little wardrobe re-fresh, I am amazed at how much we got through in 4 or so hours.

Claire has an ongoing relationship with many of her clients and they usually call on Claire after different stages in their life such as after having a baby, or heading back to work after spending time at home with little ones. She can also help you shop for those missing pieces in your wardrobe or even help you pack outfits for holidays among other things. If you have been struggling in the wardrobe department or need a style update or even a complete overhaul, I can highly recommend seeing Claire.

Hope you like some of the new outfits!
