Tiny Bites: Stan Café – Stanley’s Cool New Seaside Hangout

EatPost Category - EatEat - Post Category - Family FriendlyFamily Friendly

The queue of cars waiting to get into Stanley Plaza carpark on a Sunday morning is testament to the huge success of the shopping centre’s revamp (and hopefully will encourage developers to create more family friendly destinations!). While the hordes head down to Saffron, Chez Patrick Deli and Classified which surround the famed Pirate Ship Playground, up on the fifth floor of Stanley Plaza is a far more civilized option with a super-chill vibe. The gorgeous Stan Café opened a few months back and is a combo bistro, café and deli, selling French charcuterie, cheeses, baguettes and other goodies from their counter, as well as serving lunch and dinner.

Thumbs up for… Those amazing views… Pick a window-side seat to gaze out at the sea. We also adore their interior decoration, with brightly coloured chairs, carefully chosen artwork, and fun design elements. You can tell a lot of love has gone into creating a gorgeous space that will encourage diners and coffee-drinkers to linger and enjoy. It’s perfect for mama to sit and read the paper over a cappuccino at the weekend while daddy and the kids hit the beach! Thumbs down for… When we visited, the service was quite slow and confused, and we started our meal by listening to the loud complaints of the table behind us who had their order mixed up. Staff seemed inexperienced and befuddled by the iPad-like gadget they took our order on. May we suggest going back to basics with pens and notepads? The menu is also pretty pricey for the small portion size – $200 for a small burger and fries.

Stroller Access Yep! Roll on in mama! Highchairs Yes, but make sure to reserve one in advance as they only have a couple, and this is going to be a popular spot for the kiddie crowd.

Kids Menu There are a few special items for kids, including a burger and fries (which they substituted for courgettes when we requested veggies). However, they could do with investing in some kids’ plates and cutlery, as the fancy plate with smear of ketchup that my toddler daughter’s meal was served on made our meal feel a bit nerve-wracking!
