Travel inspiration for busy mums and dads looking to recharge
Normally at Sassy Mama, we focus on family-friendly travel and give you all the tips and tricks for surviving holidaying with the whole fam in tow. But sometimes – sometimes – we need to get away with just ourselves. Don’t get us wrong, we adore our kids, and getting to traverse the globe whenever possible is a joy and privilege. But… let’s face it, being able to kick back, relax and have some “me” time is a treat we all need, as well as the chance to really focus on our own well-being and personal goals. Enter: retreats. They’re the hottest trend in the travel industry right now and just because you’re a mum or dad, doesn’t mean that you can’t indulge in some solo travel once in a while.
We’ve got some amazing examples of where we think are the best spots to head to, no matter if you’re into meditation or HIIT workouts, need a pre-natal spa getaway or are looking for somewhere to send the hubby. Swipe on to see our top picks…
Best for: Expecting mothers in need of some pampering
Where: Bali, Indonesia
Duration: Three nights
Before your new babe arrives, take some time out for yourself and indulge in some pre-natal pampering at REVĪVŌ Wellness Retreat. This programme aims to maintain that mum-to-be glow and have your skin looking radiant. It offers various luxury treatments to reduce the risk of stretch marks, preserve skin tone, improve the skin’s elasticity, reduce fatigue and target areas prone to tension during pregnancy. Pair that with restorative yoga sessions or some mindful tai chi and you’re set for a blissful short stay. Packages can be extended so hubbys and dads-to-be can join, too, but we won’t judge you if you fail to include that tiny detail when explaining your trip to the mister. Prices vary depending on room package but start at USD$2,157.
Where: Parrot Cay, Turks and Caicos

A known name in the world of luxury travel, COMO Shambhala offers an impressive selection of wellness retreats throughout the year across many of its global destinations. This retreat offers an all-inclusive package with three and half hours of yoga each day for five days. A luxury option for sure, with prices starting at USD$7,444. The workshop hopes its participants will see a change in themselves (and for that price, let’s hope you do!).
Best for: Stressed-out Dads
Where: Phuket, Thailand
Duration: Three nights, two days
Anyone who stays at The Slate in Phuket, Thailand, is bound to feel like they’ve well and truly escaped the rat race. Located in Nai Yang Beach on Phuket’s northern shore, The Slate hosts many different retreats throughout the year, but the Hit, Heal and Heat itinerary is solely for the men in our lives. During a three-night stay, participants will take part in an intense, private Thai boxing session and then heal their aching body with a 60-minute Thai massage. The ”heat” part of the package comes from the tantalising, spicy dishes they’ll cook up at the onsite restaurant’s, Moo’s Kitchen, cooking class. It’s a short getaway but guys should feel relaxed, rejuvenated and stress-free by the end of it. Available until 31 October, 2018.
