A new name for the new year at YCA – (YMCA Christian Academy). With a teaching philosophy that centres on “AGENCY” and a quality, internationally recognised curriculum, we take a look at how this nurturing school could be the right choice for you.
The 2022-23 school year is set to be a big one for YCA. There’s its new name: YMCA Christian Academy (previously Island Christian Academy) and a change in leadership with the incoming principal, Mr. Geoff Blaik. The main ethos, though, remains unchanged, with the focus on developing well-rounded children through the holistic International Primary Curriculum (IPC).
What Is The International Primary Curriculum?
The broad and balanced IPC focuses on future-ready, authentic learning across all subjects. The IPC incorporates all subject areas, including Maths and Literacy, with exciting and engaging topics that allow the children to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding whilst following their own interests and becoming independent, creative thinkers. Alongside this, there are daily Chinese lessons in which the children learn traditional characters through a fun movement-based, storytelling approach.
YCA AGENCY
At the heart of students’ personal development is the “YCA AGENCY” teaching philosophy:
Being an ‘AGENT’ at YCA means you are:
A – Aware
G – Green
E – Entrepreneurial
N – iNnovative
C – Community-minded
Y – Youthful
AGENCY is not just for students either, it’s modelled by teachers and embraced by parents to extend the nurturing culture to the wider school community. The result is a campus environment and supportive community that comes together for events such as family fun days, heritage walks and outreach programmes.
Facilities At YMCA Christian Academy
At school, students benefit from the extensive facilities on offer. There’s the indoor rock-climbing wall, dance studio and rooftop sports pitch for extracurricular activities, Additionally, there is also a fully-equipped science laboratory perfect for conducting experiments and STEAM learning activities and a designated art studio for children to develop and exhibit their creativity.
