Bring on the Cold Weather: Patagonia Opens in Hong Kong

Style & BeautyPost Category - Style & BeautyStyle & Beauty

Coming from the Northeast of the US and being a skier and lover all things ‘outdoorsy’, Patagonia was a part of life.  No, I’m not talking about the rugged mountain range in South American (which I want to explore someday…), but rather the outdoor clothing and gear line.  Lovingly referred to by New England boarding school students and preppy co-eds as “Pada-Gucci“, it was a fashion fixture.

kids jacketsWith the countdown on until we head back for the holidays, I’m starting to think about the return trip and the zillions of things I need to do to not just get myself and Hubby sorted out, but also little J.  High on the list? A coat for the little munchkin ’cause where we’re headed it’s cold.

So for those of you on a similar mission or prepping a family ski holiday, I’m going to suggest you hit up one of Patagonia’s four locations in town – including a brand new shop right in Central.  We’re talking oodles of super cute stuff for the little ones here – I really had to police myself and release the armful of gear I grabbed.  In the end J scored an adorable little puffball of a jacket (so cute – and in fact, were it not for the closet of Patagonia jackets I have back in the States, I would have picked up a matching one pour moi).

One of the many reasons I love Patagonia – whose new store on Lyndhurst Terrace opened just a week ago – is that they have a strong corporate mission to care for the environment.  It is ingrained in  every element of their company and their products (just one example: they converted their entire sportswear line to 100% organically grown cotton … back in 1996).  They also donate 1% of all sales to local environmental groups.  So while I won’t lead you on and say their clothing is the best ‘deal’ around price-wise (its nickname isn’t Pada-Gucci for nothing), you can feel good not just about the quality you’re getting (which is tops), but also that they feel just as passionately about protecting the Earth for your children as you do.

Here’s a look at some of the cute gear for kids that caught my eye.

Kids winter coat

Reversible Tribbles Jacket, from HK$820
The only trouble with Tribbles is deciding which fabric, furry or slick, to wear on the outside.

Winter coat for kids

Reversible Puff-Ball Jacket, from HK$750
Keep little bodies warm and dry with this reversible jacket that blocks wind, moisture and cold temperatures with a fabric that’s soft and inviting.

Winter clothing for kids

Retro Vest, from HK$550
Would you believe the fleece in this vest is made out of recycled soda bottles??

Winter ski clothes for kids

Reversible Puff-Ball Pants, from HK$550
All-weather warmth in reversible colors, plus it’s finished to seal out wet weather.
