Who Actually Chooses An Online School In Hong Kong?

There isn’t one typical CGA student. Some are academically ambitious and ready to move ahead in a particular subject. Others are athletes or performers who need school to work around training and competitions. There are globally mobile families, students looking for subjects their current school can’t offer and children who simply work better outside a busy traditional classroom.

That’s the point: the model can bend around the student, rather than asking every student to work the same way.

CGA students can enrol full-time or take individual subjects alongside their existing school. On average, live group classes are kept to just 8 to 10 students so teachers can get to know each child. There are also one-to-one Da Vinci classes, with lessons available across multiple time zones and a flexible timetable.

Students are taught according to ability rather than age. And with rolling admissions and no waitlists, they can start when they’re ready.

For Coco, that meant swapping a broad IB timetable for three A Level subjects she genuinely wanted to study (and having more time and energy to do them well!).

If School Happens Online, Where Do Friendships Fit In?

With more than 3,000 students across 75+ countries (with almost half based in Asia), Hong Kong students have plenty of opportunities to connect with peers closer to home as well as around the world. Coco admits she’d expected online learning to mean less interaction. What she found was the small-group breakout sessions helped her make friends, and she could ask teachers questions privately. She also found herself surrounded by classmates who wanted to learn, something she says helped motivate her too.

There’s Still One Very Practical Question — What About The Results?

In the 2026 A Level results, 44% of CGA grades were A to A* (compared with 29.9% across the UK), with 33 A* grades awarded and a 95.2% overall pass rate. Students also have access to a dedicated university team from Grade 9, with support for applications across the UK, US and beyond. Plus recommendation letters from their specialist teachers who know them personally.

That gets us to the results. CGA’s 2026 graduating cohort secured 325 university offers from more than 190 institutions worldwide (double the previous year’s total!). That included 52 Russell Group acceptances, with offers from the University of Cambridge, as well as places at UC Berkeley, NYU and other leading universities around the world.

Students can enrol part-time, perhaps to take a subject that isn’t available at school or study a course at a more advanced level. Others choose CGA as their full-time school. Sometimes, it’s simply about finding a better way for your child to pursue their interests.
