Frizz fighting is one of our favourite topics of conversation at this time of year, so here are some SOS hair supplies worth investing in.

There’s no doubt about it, Hong Kong humidity plays absolute havoc with our hair. There’s nothing more frustrating than leaving home with a perfectly smooth blow-dry, to find yourself looking like Worzel Gummidge on arrival at the school gates or at your ladies lunch gathering. We’ve spent many hours discussing what works and what doesn’t as we attempt to tame our manes, so decided it was only fair to share our best frizz-fighting products with you. They are all easy-to-apply sprays, creams or sheets, so can quickly be worked into your morning or evening mum routine. These products are a little on the pricey side, but we believe they’re worth it.

1. The Conditioner: Aveda Smooth Infusion Conditioner

A good conditioner is essential in the fight against frizz, and we’ve long been fans of cruelty-free beauty brand Aveda. Its smooth infusion range, as with all its inventions, is made with natural ingredients (including organic aloe, maize and guar bean) that harness the power of plants. This conditioner smooths the surface of your hair without weighing it down, protects against heat damage and leaves it silky soft so it’s a great place to start taming flyaways. We also love its sandalwood scent. If you get on well with this conditioner, there are other sister products you can also invest in (think shampoo, styling cream and even a prep smoother).

2. The Leave-In Treatment: Olaplex No. 6 Bond Smoother

You’ve likely seen Olaplex’s distinctive black and white packaging and perhaps you already own one or more of its great bond building products, which have been developed by world-class scientists. Well, the No.6 Bond Smoother – which flew off the shelves when it was first released (and with good reason) – is its latest invention. It’s a leave-in treatment that can be applied to all types of damp or dry hair before you style as usual. It can help to eliminate frizz for up to 72 hours (we’ll take that!) while the highly concentrated formula moisturises (with coconut oil and vitamin E) and adds shine. Be prepared to be addicted!

3. The Leave-In Spray: Color Wow Dream Coat Supernatural Spray

You have to have real confidence in a product to call it a supernatural spray. But we can honestly say that Color Wow’s Dream Coat really does seem supernatural (something that’s backed up by the number of beauty accolades it has been awarded). You’ll know exactly what we mean once you try this frizz-fighting formula for yourself! All you have to do is liberally spray the heat-activated product onto damp hair and blow dry using a brush. Its polymer technology works by coating each strand individually to block out water and humidity, so you’ll immediately see your hair looks much smoother and sleeker. The best part is you don’t need to use it every time you wash your hair (but of course we wouldn’t blame you if you were tempted!) because it lasts for up to four shampoos.

4. The Serum: IGK Crybaby Anti-Frizz Smoothing Serum

IGK is a 100% vegan brand (created by four stylists) so two of the main ingredients in this effective serum are coconut oil and prickly pear cactus extract. It won’t make your hair feel or look greasy (which is always a risk with serums) but it will eliminate frizz, smooth and soften. Instead of sitting on top of it like a film, the product works by actually absorbing into your hair. The cartoon-style label also makes its an eye-catching addition to your bathroom shelf, and a little goes a long way!

5. The Hairspray: Living Proof Humidity Shield

If you want to use a hairspray as a final frizz-fighting weapon, this weightless Living Proof version should be your go-to. Spray it all over your do before you leave home, and not only will it keep your style intact but it will also form an invisible shield against the humidity. It provides your hair with up to six times more protection against the elements than usual, as well as UV protection and even static control. All Living Proof products revolve around using the power of science to address particular concerns (its biotech originates from MIT no less), so they definitely deliver on results. Plus they don’t contain any nasties!

6. The Quick Fix: OUAI Anti Frizz Hair Sheets

OUAI is another haircare brand that’s won over the Sassy Mama team and these sheets (which come in packs of 15) are a lifesaver when you need a quick frizz-fighting fix. Once you’ve tried them, you’ll want to make sure you always have one to hand in whatever bag you’re carrying. You simply smooth the wipe all over the surface of your hair and let it get to work taming your tresses. Plus, you’ll get a dose of added shine for good measure. The hemp paper sheets are enriched with coconut oil and shea butter, and they also smell great! Each pack contains 15 sheets.
