Breastfeeding May Reduce Asthma Risk

ExpertsPost Category - ExpertsExpertsParentingPost Category - ParentingParenting - Post Category - BabyBaby

Good news, HK moms (and dads!) – A new study just released reveals that exclusively breastfeeding your baby during the first 4 months of life may reduce your child’s risk of developing asthma by their eighth birthday.  The Swedish study shows that those babies breastfed for 4 months or longer had a 37% lower risk of asthma than those partially or not at all breastfed.  In addition to the reduced asthma risk, the extended and exclusive diet of breast milk also resulted in better lung function at age 8.

Full report from Reuters Health here.

This is encouraging news as I’m constantly worried about little J and the HK air pollution…Did you know that some reports put the number of children with asthma in this town at 1 in 10???  Yikes.
