If you and your kid are serious about ballet then check out the elite ballet school at the Hong Kong Youth Ballet Academy. The academy aims to inspire the next generation of ballet dancers, with classes taught by professional instructors, paying special attention to this dance form’s prestigious heritage. It has a high number of award-winning students, many of whom have been accepted into professional dance schools around the globe – something to consider if you think your little one might go pro in the future.

StudioDanz Academy has a child-specific programme that aims to nurture children through the love of dance. It offers a multi-level approach so that children are dancing with other kids with similar skills as them, as well as encouraging children to improve through performances and competitions. The Academy focuses on kids from 3 to 11, with older kids moving on towards its regular studio, StudioDanz. There, kids can continue to dance, train and perform into adulthood.

Bollywood music always has a way of inspiring anyone to get up and shake and now your little one can learn to dance just like a Hindi movie star at Feel The Beat Dance Studio. The studio was founded by Uday Sathala in 2011. Uday is a renowned Indian dance instructor who has been dancing since the age of 8. His dance classes introduce kids to the world of Bollywood dance and music, along with a mix of hip-hop and jazz.

Kathryn O’Connor-Barton is a certified Irish dancer and adjudicator. Passionate about sharing the Irish dance form with Hong Kong, she established her classes in 2011. Irish dance is a fun and very social type of choreography that showcases the country’s culture. Youngsters will learn to master the basic footwork that comes with this style and learn to dance individually as well as a team, at training locations available across Hong Kong.

The CCDC is one of Hong Kong’s oldest leading dance companies having been established in 1979. The academy works with youngsters, adults and professionals, and puts on top-notch performances every year. CCDC’s aim is to inspire creativity and bring enjoyment for kids, giving them skills for self-improvement through dance and beyond. It offers a huge variety of dance classes for children, such as traditional Chinese dance, K-Pop, modern, alongside the standard ballet, jazz, and tap. Dance classes cater to those of all ages with plenty of opportunities for kids to develop and continue their dance passions and skills as they grow up.

Recognised as one of the most prestigious ballet schools in Asia, Jean M. Wong School of Ballet has been on the dancing scene in Hong Kong since 1960. The school’s main priority is classical ballet that starts training kids from the age of two and upwards and uses the RAD system for classes and examinations. There are six schools in operation across Hong Kong, including the New Territories, with plenty of opportunities for kids to compete and perform.

Seed is the children-centred academy by Infinity Dance Studio that focuses on kids from the age of 3 to 16. It has been nurturing kids’ love of dance since its establishment in 2003, with class options from hip-hop, jazz, and jazz-funk. Trial classes are available for youngsters who are perhaps a little unsure or shy (don’t worry – Seed is sure to improve confidence with plenty of fun performance opportunities!). Infinity Dance Studio, the main studio, is for older kids and adults so that there is always room for progression for the dedicated child or curious parent.

Island Dance is one of Hong Kong’s largest dance companies with 17 different locations across Hong Kong. So even if you live in one of the outlying islands, there is sure to be a location near you! Children as young as 18 months can participate in classes which include disco freestyle, tap, ballet and hip-hop, with options for competition, examination and plenty of performance opportunities. Island Dance also offers a dance class specifically for children with special needs with the opportunity to perform as well.

It also offers dance classes for kids as young as 18 months all the way up to adulthood, with a variety of options including contemporary, ballet, lyrical, acro dance, hip-hop and more. Red Shoe Dance company specialises in a wide variety of dance styles to suit whatever your kid might be interested in, with the aim of providing the best dance training and learning to create career dancers.
