Be inspired by a life in the performing arts
Whether your child is belting out diva-tunes, a maestro on their instrument, leaps through the air with jetés or has a dramatic flair (and we’re not talking about that teenage sass!), there is a school and a programme that will encourage these natural talents to thrive and grow.
Hong Kong Academy has officially become the home for International Schools Theatre Association (ISTA) Academy Hong Kong. It is the only performing arts academy in our city that focuses on collaborative development of performing arts across all mediums and art forms. At its helm is world-renown artist, Anne Drouet. Anne was trained in the UK and worked at the prestigious Brit School of Performing Arts before moving into international education as a music teacher (8 of which she worked in the IB programme). Not only has she inspired students (most notably the late Amy Winehouse and Leona Lewis) to pursue their dreams in the arts, she has many students that have gone on to become accomplished musicians, songwriters, music producers and teachers. Needless to say, Anne’s passion, experience and love for empowering the next generation of artists makes the launch of ISTA in Hong Kong that much more exciting!
The programme at ISTA aims to challenge, inspire and connect the talents of likeminded young students. The board of patrons include award-winning individuals from Walt Disney Studios to Oscar-winning special effects supervisors – the ISTA will open doors for your children like no other in our city. It will provide extraordinary opportunities for youth in the performing arts to experience and develop their craft in a supportive, collaborative and cross-disciplinary environment.
This December, there will be several engaging, fun and highly focused workshops which will be available and taught by engaging instructors. The workshops and programmes are available for all secondary school students and not just Hong Kong Academy students. One of which is the “Rhythm of Shape” which focuses on physical expression as well as series of Masterclasses on composition and improv with highly acclaimed musician, John Altman.
