Mamas and Papas; it’s time to get tech-savvy!

Back in our day, the most high-tech bit of kit used at school was a whiteboard, or if you were fancy, your classroom had its own overhead projector! Nowadays kids have the world at their fingertips and a whole heap of technology (which we’re often fighting to pull them away from!). No-screen time is important, but in 2018 you’ve got to be tech-savvy to stay ahead of the game. So, if your child is going to use an iPad or play around with apps, it should be in a mindful, educational manner, which is exactly how Stamford American incorporates technology into its curriculum and teaching methods as part of its STEMinn curriculum (science technology, engineering, math and innovation).

Rather than us listing out how the ultra-modern tech is used in the classroom, Stamford American is hosting a free day of workshops for parents to get a peek at how children are learning in today’s classroom. You’ll learn all about the most up-to-date apps used in education; the technology behind 3D printers; how iPads can be used in the classroom; and discover just exactly what coding is. But most importantly you’ll learn why they are used in the classroom and what the learning outcomes of using EdTech in schools are.

Led by the school’s innovation experts, there will be two sessions held on Thursday, 17 May. Parents can become students again and check out the latest gadgets and technology. There will also be an overview of the school’s future-focused innovation program (STEMinn). So not only will you be kept up-to-date on what your child is up to, you may just learn some new skills yourself!

If your child is a little younger and isn’t quite ready to become a computer whiz, Stamford American will also be holding a mindfulness seminar on Wednesday, 23 May for parents of young children to help promote making positive choices and managing emotions. Find out more about the event here.
