It’s your kiddos birthday! Now to find a party venue…

Our Sassy Mama Editor shares her experience planning her daughter, Everly’s first birthday party and how finding the perfect venue helped her enjoy that special milestone day.

Having planned and been to several kiddo birthday parties in my day (ex-party planner over here!), I knew I wanted to keep Everly’s first birthday as uncomplicated as possible. After all, the first year celebration is just as important for the parents as it is the one turning one! It’s a way to say, “You did it! You survived!”. And the last thing I wanted to do was make that Yay-We-Made-It/Survival party a stressful thing.

Every party planner can tell you that if you want to make your celebration as streamlined and easy as pie, having one spot that provides all the party essentials (venue, catering, entertainment etc.) is key. Both my kiddos had been attending Kindermusik with Crisel at Baumhaus for some time already and the space felt like a second home to our family. So it made perfect sense to book Everly’s first birthday at Baumhaus when we found out that it was available to rent out for parties.

The party package itself was pretty straightforward and had what I was looking for. We were able to invite 20 of Everly’s friends for a two hour party that included playroom entry, exclusive usage of the studio space plus a 45 minute Teacher Led Educational Entertainment (music, movement and/or drama) session. There was also an option of having the party catered with food and beverage options as well as hiring a Face Painter and adding extra time. Yes, please!

We ended up going with the basic package while adding a Face Painter and an extra hour to our time together. I had started pinning some ideas on Pinterest a few months leading up to Everly’s birthday on what kind of theme I wanted and settled on a sweet and cute Ice Cream Parlour idea.

As I’m a big fan of DIY-ing, I created a simple backdrop with yellow crepe paper, glittery gold bunting on twine and pastel honeycomb ice cream cones. I also found some darling ice cream parlour props for the photo booth. All the kids got to take home some bubbles in an ice cream cone shaped container in a fun confetti spotted bag. To add to theme, we decided to have an ice cream sundae bar along with a gorgeous painted water coloured birthday cake from Citrus Sweets that resembled melted ice cream.

The staff at Baumahus were so helpful and were up and down on chairs with me pinning all the decorations in place as well as storing all the tubs of ice cream away for us before our guests arrived. With everything set up, we were ready to par-tay!

Everyone had a great time taking pictures at the photo booth, nom-ing on treats and celebrating the birthday girl. The face painter was a huge hit amongst the tots and the ice cream sundae bar a popular spot for the adults! The older kiddos had a great time running around the open spaced playroom and climbing on the wooden treehouse structure while the littles enjoyed a music and movement class taught by one of Baumhaus’ educators, Teacher Bea.

I was grateful that Baumhaus had helped to take care of the key parts of the day so that I could sit back and enjoy the party myself. And the best part for me was definitely watching Everly’s pure excitement during the class and dancing alongside of her. It was hard to believe how fast she had grown!

The first year flies by, mamas! Enjoy those precious moments and make sure to have a glass (or two!) of some champers to celebrate your milestone too!
