Mama’s Night Out: New Drinks And Deals To Try This February

Here’s where you should be drinking this month!

Now that the Chinese New Year holidays are over and the kids are back at school, it’s time to gather the girls for a good old catch up over a cocktail or two. There’s no shortage of places to try – from new openings to new drinks at some of our favourite haunts, so you’ll be spoilt for choice!

Hugger Mugger

During Hugger Mugger’s daily happy hour from 5pm to 7pm, you can choose from the Bazaar Drinks menu, which includes a choice of classic cocktails (negronis, caipirinhas and margaritas) for $50. Or for an extra $10, choose from one its specially crafted cocktails (we like the Panjab Sour which has vodka and a hint of basil). If you’re looking for some food to accompany your drink, you’ve come to the right place. Priced at $50 each, a selection of bites (including the yummy Bombay Fried Chicken with pickled tomato mayonnaise) is also available.

The Nest

This new venue is a lifestyle lounge and event space, with a real homely feel. Its happy hour runs from 5pm to 9pm every day, so you can take advantage of $50 beer, wines, house spirits, aperol spritz and bloody marys. You can also order off the regular cocktail menu (from $95), which makes use of inventive ingredients like star-anise enhanced smoke and even green curry paste! The balcony overlooking LKF is a great people-watching spot, and don’t forget to check out the cool moss bar. If hunger strikes there is also a selection of tapas, including cheese and cold cut platters and truffle fries.

SHÈ

This new restaurant is situated within Lane Crawford in the ifc mall, making it the perfect place for a pit shop after a shopping trip with the ladies. It’s got a great terrace overlooking Victoria Harbour and has just launched a sunset hour from 4pm to 8pm. During this time house wines, house spirits and pints of Asahi are $68. But we recommend you go for one of its $78 cocktails. The Night Jasmine, which consists of white vermouth, yuzu juice and jasmine syrup, topped with a fresh chrysanthemum, is our pick. There’s also a 10% discount on small bites during happy hour, so you can munch on snacks including Taro spring rolls, crispy fried wontons and crispy squid with salt and pepper.

John Anthony

This modern Chinese restaurant in Causeway Bay is already a favourite of ours, so we were delighted to hear about its happy hour deal. Every day between 5:30pm and 7:30pm, you can be sipping on house-infused gin and tonics for $70. Or if gins not your thing, a selection of $50 house drinks is also available (including selected wines and beers). A word of warning, you might not be able to resist ordering some of its delicious dim sum as an accompaniment (black truffle vegetarian siu mai, yes please!).

Te Quiero Mucho (Mojo Nomad Central) 

If Mexican food and margaritas sound like a great night to you, then head to Te Quiero Mucho in Mojo Nomad Hotel. Between 3pm and 7pm you can take advantage of happy hour pricing on select drinks. Those margaritas will only cost you $60, with pints and bottles of beer from $50. Of course, if you’re looking for something a little stronger, you could try the Submarine (which is a mix of beer and tequila).

Fini’s

Fans of Linguini Fini will be glad to hear that although the restaurant has been rebranded as Fini’s, its happy hour is still a firm feature. You can indulge in free-flow house beer and Fini’s wings for $108 between 5pm and 7pm on weeknights. The same offer also applies to its new location in Wan Chai (it’s taken over the space formerly occupied by Stone Nullah Tavern). The ThirtySix Bar & Co

We can’t wait to try out this new cocktail bar on Hollywood Road. The ThirtySix Bar & Co is named after the 36 copper stills used at The Macallan’s new distillery and promises to elevate the classic the Highball (using craft spirits, small-batch bitters and fresh botanicals). From Thursday, 7 February between 5pm and 8pm you can choose from a selection of cocktails and draught beers for just $36. But make sure you get there early because only a limited number are available at this price. We like that this bar is environmentally sustainable and doesn’t use single-use plastics.

BEDU

While BEDU may not have a happy hour, we think it’s worth including for some of the great-sounding new cocktails that have been added to its menu. The Nebula ($95) is made up of gin, ginger juice, rosemary syrup and earl grey foam, while the Brusiku ($95) contains lavender-infused vodka, elderflower syrup, lemon juice, egg white and bitters. Make sure to add this to your list for girly dinners (or date nights with your other half), because you won’t be able to have a drink without succumbing to the tempting food menu too.

The Wise King

Ok so it also doesn’t have a happy hour, but we’re going to put The Wise King on your radar (just in case it isn’t already) because it has just revived its cocktail menu. And it is certainly experimenting with a lot of interesting flavours. Why not try the #BlissNegroni ($128), which lists black truffle and Nutella among its ingredients. Or the #JamónOldFashioned ($118) which is made from Jamón Iberico bourbon and cantaloupe syrup. Don’t forget to indulge in some of its sharing-style plates while you’re there. We can personally never say no to patatas bravas!

Cruise Rooftop Bar

If you and the girls are looking for somewhere special for your next ladies night, Cruise might fit the bill. It’s located on the top floor of Hotel VIC in North Point and, as the name suggests, it overlooks the city’s cruise terminal. You can sip on cocktails like the Chilly Sakura (a mix of sake, lemon juice, sakura syrup, lychee juice and egg white) or Dearest Angel (a mix of gin, midori, melon puree, honey, lemon juice and egg white) for $138 while you take in the view.
