Get excited about doing homework!
As the Back To School posters start popping up in shop windows, you can tell it’s that time of year again. Get your children motivated with the back to school buzz by creating the perfect space at home to focus and do their studies. To help, we’ve found some fab children’s desks available here in the city. Whether ergonomic or traditional, for younger kids or teens, there’s something for every taste.
With over 80 years of experience developing and manufacturing ergonomic beds and furniture, PAIDI Kids World knows a thing or two about homework stations. This award-winning German brand has a range of furniture perfect for babies, toddlers, children and teens, and the selection of School world desks and chairs will definitely catch your eye. Create the perfect study environment for your child by mixing and matching from the wide variety of options – like the Tablo desk, Pepe chair and Para.mi LED light.
But what makes these desks stand out is the adjustable height and tilted angles that’ll help protect spinal development and prevent shortsightedness – they also grow with your kids as they age! Rest assured in the knowledge that the durable, sustainable and eco-friendly desks and chairs have been quality and safety tested by the Golden Mark of German Association of Quality Furniture, Intertek GS in Germany and the Blue Angel environmental label. Make your wallet happy, too, with 10% off purchases for Amex card members (until Tuesday, 31 December 2019) and up to 15% off a full set (desk, desk tray, chair and desk light) of School world products for both Amex and non-Amex card members (until Saturday, 31 August 2019)!
Sassy Mama readers can also get 15% off the School world products until Saturday, 31 August 2019 (full set is not needed) when mentioning Sassy Mama at the checkout.

With a small selection of classic options, the children’s desks at Indigo Kids would look great in any room of your home. Our eye was drawn to the Tipi desk (shown above), as the minimalist design would fit well in any kids bedroom (ideal for tweens and teens). The solid pine and veneer design has plenty of storage space for books and stationery, with a clean tabletop for laptops. Even better, it’s delivered ready assembled to your home, so no need to get grumpy over DIY! The Archie desk also has plenty of storage and comes with a cushioned stool that doubles up as extra storage space, while younger kids will love the Mads table and chair combo that resembles some Montessori or primary school furniture.
Let’s be honest, youngsters might be spending quite a lot of time sitting at their homework stations, so you’ll want to make sure they’re comfortable and not forming any bad posture habits. Moll specialises in ergonomic furniture that adapts to the needs of your children. Its range of children’s desks and study desks will mould to your little (or big!) learner, and are so well made they’ll definitely stand the test of time.

Founded in Denmark in 1972, this brand specialises in the design and manufacturing of home furniture for kids. With four stores in Hong Kong (found in the New Territories, Wan Chai and Ap Lei Chau) its desks are flexible (hence the name!) and will adapt to your child’s homework requirements (for example, some can tilt – perfect for art and design homework). With mechanical engineering, desks can also grow in height as your kids do! The Moby Middle Up Study Desk is a great all-rounder for tweens and teens as it’s height-adjustable and also has a tilting middle section, while the Woody Study Desk will also grow with younger kids.
Kumamon at Baby Central (online)
If you’re looking for an ergonomic desk for your little learner, the Kumamon Ergonomic Desk and Chair Set (shown above; available at Baby Central) is an excellent option. Suitable for children as young as 3 years old, the desk and chair will adjust and grow with your child – right up to to the age of 12! It’s the Swiss Army Knife of children’s desks, including a foot step, book or mini tablet stand, built-in LED lamp, multipurpose draw, adjustable angled tabletop – and we haven’t even started on the chair!
Tavolo Kids Living
This luxury babies and kids boutique has provided furniture and everyday items for your little ones since 2012. Stocking a bunch of brands, it has some straight forward but solid desk and chair options for primary age and older children. The oak white Arco desk by Okamura is not only well made and pleasing to the eye, but it’s functional as well – with plenty of worktop space for books, folders and stationery and built-in draws, plus the additional bookcase on the side. For little learners, we love the Colo Colo chair and desk, fitting for children aged seven months to five years!
Tequila Kola’s desk offerings range from ultra-modern to vintage chic, so would work well for older kids or those returning from college for the holidays. Although not the cheapest out there, these desks wouldn’t look out of place as a centrepiece in your main living area – and they’re sure to pick up lots of compliments! So when not used as a homework station, they could double-up as your home office as well. The solid wood Babalou desk has a beautiful classic finish, with various sized handy drawers for pens, post-its and other stationery, while the white club Snake desk (make with lacquered wood complete with steel chrome handles) is ideal for those wanting a more modern vibe.
TREE’s offerings are solid and sturdy perfect for a home office or study. You’ll find a good selection for your teens, made with wood and other industrial materials. If you’re looking for space-saving solutions, the simply city hanging desk (shown above) is a fab choice. Made with reclaimed teak wood, it attaches to the wall maximising floor space and makes a good small work station for laptop use (it even has a small drawer built in). Another that makes the most of innovative design is the circa17 desk. Again, its small width is good for limited spaces, but the best part is the hidden compartments under the desktop to store all your kids’ bits and bobs.
