Where the world comes to play

It’s that time of year again, mamas – Hong Kong is getting ready to kick it up a few notches with the annual Rugby Sevens. Counting down to the city’s major sporting (and social!) event that starts on 7th April until 9th April, we take a look at our lineup of events happening outside the stadium. And because we always have your best interest in mind (don’t we always?), we’re highlighting the family-friendly and parent-only options.

HSBC Sevens Village

For those who have not managed to snag a coveted ticket, the HSBC Sevens Village (a stone’s throw away from the stadium), is the best place to watch the games outside of being in the stands (long gone are those South Stand days!). Live screenings of every match will be broadcast on the humongous TV screen, along with heaps of things to keep your kids entertained.

From a Kids Zone with arts and crafts to face painting to the HSBC Rugby Challenge, where bigger kids and parents can test their strength and accuracy as they are fastened into a state-of-the-art machine then tasked to hit various targets. There is also the Pressure Drop (tick tock!) where you can practice your kicking skills against the clock.

If your little one is an aspiring sportsperson, there is a chance to meet the greats at the Village such as Olympic Gold Medal-winning coach, Ben Ryan and renowned rugby legends, Brian O’Driscoll, Jason Robinson, George Gregan, and Gavin Hastings. They will be around for a quick chat and a selfie! Hong Kong rugby team mascot, Wai Bei, will also be around to chat with!.

Entry is free for the whole gang and the Village has a great vibe where you will more than likely stay most of the day. There are also a lot of fabulous food options, so even the fussiest eater should be appeased.

After Party Without the Kids

Once the final whistle blows, it’s time to pack the little ones off to bed and do a quick turnaround back to the HSBC Sevens Villages to catch all the live entertainment lined up. We’re talking about the Red Hot Chilli Pipers (who are back for the third year!). These folks blend bag pipes with rock music to get the crowd jumpin’ and are a must see!.

The swanky Champagne Lounge is just for you, glama mamas. Witha large island bar, huge exclusive outdoor terrace and upper level balcony, it offers a luxe party experience and prime VIP spot overlooking and absorbing the immense atmosphere from the Sevens Village festival. Plus, this is the best place to spot the odd rugby star! In addition to its super cool DJs, rumour has it that Black Widow, will be rocking up a storm. Any way you look at it, this is the party to attend, so make sure you have a babysitter lined up!

HSBC Try Rugby will host booths at Chater Garden and Hysan Place, featuring a number of fun and exciting games where kids can learn the core skills of rugby while having fun with friends and family. With mini rugby balls to be won and the chance to win a signed Hong Kong Rugby Team jersey, your kids have good reason to get into the competitive spirit.
