Sassy Mama Book Club: To Baby with Love

Family LifePost Category - Family LifeFamily Life

One of my New Year Resolutions is to become a bit more crafty.  Not in a sneaky, mischievous sort of way – I’m thinking more along the line of arts + crafts.  I’ve been attempting a scrapbook for, well, years now (which, who am I kidding, has only gotten as far as stuffing bits and bobs into a few boxes — but at least they’re labeled!!).

But I mean it this time – and now with J in the picture I have this crazy desire to create. It’s think it’s an offshoot of the nesting thing that happens to you when you become a mom.  And I just found a book that offers plenty of inspiration.

To Baby with Love, by Deborah Schneebeli-Morrell, offers a collection of 35 beautiful projects, all with charmingly illustrated step-by-step instructions and gorgeous photography.  From pillows and play mats, to a nappby bag and changing mat, her ideas make for perfect gifts. I’ve got a baby shower coming up soon and am thinking this might be just the source for a really special gift.  For newborns, make a cozy patchwork quilt from off-cuts of cashmere sweaters or cute toys to hang above the cot. For an active baby, create a soft floor rug with ribbon tags and fabric flowers for little fingers to investigate. Once your baby has become aware of the wider world, try making some cuddly toys or a fabric book embellished with applique animals. And for toddlers moving into their own bedroom, how about a decorated picture frame, or a doll-sized blanket to keep their favourite toys warm?  The book spoils you with choices of gifts to make and give – and who knows, maybe even pass down to a future generation.
