Twinkle Dance Company – Now offering classes for mama too!

Although I’m quite a girly girl myself, I was always sure that I would bring my daughter up in the same way I had been brought up: dungaree-wearing, plenty of gender-neutral toys and absolutely NO ballet… So how did I find myself dropping my toddler daughter off at Twinkle Dance Company in Central, dressed in a pink tutu for a class where she would run around waving a sparkly wand? Well, in the past few months, I’ve had to come to the realization that no matter how many Socatots classes she does, and how much her peer group is entirely dominated by boys, she’d still rather play with her dolls and teddies than her cars, lining them all up for kisses and running around with a shopping bag dangling from her arm. So off to ballet we go, and surprise surprise, she LOVES it.

Conveniently located on Queen’s Road, Twinkle Dance Company also runs classes and courses from Flex in Wong Chuk Hang, and they’re not just about ballet – if Funky Dance or Jazz is more your child’s speed, there’s plenty on offer. Check out the schedule and various locations on their website.

Excitingly, if you’re a former ballerina yourself, or just would like the legs of one, Twinkle have now introduced ballet classes for adults, and are offering a special September promotion of a free trial class for mums where you can bring a friend along with you. Sadly as I’m currently 39 weeks preggers, I’m more beached whale than black swan, but otherwise I’d be very tempted!

Twinkle Dance Company was founded by Twinkle Lam in 2007, who is that perfect mix of sweet and stern that a ballet teacher should be, and classes start from age 2 (unaccompanied) all the way through to adults.
