LearnPost Category - LearnLearnParties & PlayPost Category - Parties & PlayParties & Play

We’ve got an action-packed Weekender lined up for all you Sassy Mamas – so let’s not waste a moment more! Here’s what’s hot for the coming week…

Go down the rabbit hole
The Standard Chartered Arts In The Park Mardi Gras is one of the hugest outdoor community arts events in Hong Kong and this year, the theme is Alice In Wonderland… so you can expect lots of weird and wonderful whimsy throughout the day! Highlights include a spectacular parade filled with colourful costumes and giant puppets, dance performances from 70 youth groups and free art stalls and activities, all themed around Lewis Carroll’s childhood classic. Off with their heads!

Where: Central Lawn, Victoria Park, Causeway Bay
When: 12-13 November, 10am-5pm
How much: Free!

It’s hero time!
We’re sure he needs no introduction to most little kids but Ben 10, Cartoon Network’s show about a boy whose watch turns him into aliens (aaah… it’s a long way from Bill & Ben The Flowerpot Men!), is coming to town! Ben 10 Live: Power Of The Omnitrix promises 90 minutes of thrills and spills, stunts and skateboarding and action and acrobats… and more than a few aliens of course! For devotees, the VIP ticket includes an alien superhero meet and greet, plus a bumper goodie bag full of Ben 10 souvenirs. Best of all? We’ve got exclusive discounts for the Sunday shows!

Where: Star Hall, KITEC, Kowloon Bay
When: 11 November, 4.30pm and 7.30pm; 12-13 November, 11am, 3pm and 7pm
How much: $110-1010, www.hkticketing.com, 3128 8288

Hot new eatery this way!
Here’s another new joint that comes Sassy Mama approved – Heirloom has just set up shop in the increasingly-happening Sheung Wan area and we are loving what we’ve seen so far! It’s a lovely airy and family-friendly restaurant (high chairs galore!) that dishes up a scrumptious menu of comfort food done well; we’re talking tacos (yes, they DO exist in HK!), sandwiches, salads, cupcakes and… the highlight… s’mores round a campfire! Forget the diet and enjoy!

Where:
226 Hollywood Road, Sheung Wan, 2547 8008

Bake It!
One of Sassy Mama’s fave yoga teachers, Nealy Fischer of Yogabeet, does a nifty line in cookery too – and she’s here to skill you in her domestic goddess ways with her Bake Your Cake & Eat It Too Cooking Class. Nealy will be joined by cake whiz Melissa Brewster, who will be demonstrating special cake decorating techniques, whilst all the recipes will be gluten-free goodies like banana pecan cookies, chocolate drops and a great go-to cake. We’re drooling already!

Where: Riquiqui, 2/F, 12 Wellington Street, Central
When: 14 November, 7-9pm
How much: $1000, email [email protected] to book your place

Party with Elmo, Dora, Spongebob and friends!
This weekend’s Lan Kwai Fong Carnival isn’t just for all the ravers out there – there’s a special Toys R Us Kids Street full of fun and games for little ones too! Apart from the parade itself, there’ll be balloon, dance and yoyo shows, story-telling, jugglers, magicians and clowns, a bouncy castle, a preview of all the hottest toys for Christmas (and a chance to win them all!) plus photo opps with cute kids favourites, like Elmo, Dora The Explorer, Spongebob Squarepants, Toys R Us’ Geoffrey The Giraffe himself… and many more! If your littlies aren’t tuckered out by the end of that, good luck!
