Hong Kong is set to go all out this Christmas! The lights, tinsel  and decorations have already started appearing and we couldn’t be happier. Here’s where to take your kids to get into the spirit of Christmas in Hong Kong!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Get ready for giant trees and pictures with Santa! Although it’ll be a socially distanced affair this year, rest assured, there are plenty of places to visit that’ll get your family in the festive spirit. Capture some special moments and spread joy and positivity as you get out and about again with your loved ones. With all the festive displays around the city, it is definitely a fun, though (slightly) hefty task, to pick which one to go to; but don’t worry – we’ve done the hard work for you so you don’t have to.

We’ll be updating this selection as Santa’s helpers tell us more, so be sure to keep checking back. In the meantime, get into the Christmas spirit, grab your camera and get snapping!

Pacific Place Santa What's New

Pacific Place – AR Santa Experience

The snow is coming to you at Pacific Place! From Friday, 19 November 2021, to Sunday, 2 January 2022, head to Pacific Place for a snowy escape packed with with fun activities. The “Christmas Resort” promises to be “Your ultimate winter holiday retreat” as you follow a baby Yeti in the AR Santa experience. Exploring Santa’s cozy lodge, indulging in the delicious Christmas cookies, and enjoy the kids activities and live performances. The tickets are available from 11am on Friday, 19 November 2021 on a first-come-first-serve basis (as always).

Christmas in Hong Kong Santa island shangri la

Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong – Christmas markets and a chance to meet Santa

The Island Shangri-La is pulling out all out all the stops this Christmas. Decorations will be going up in the hotel lobby on Friday, 19 November, with the lighting of the tree at 5:30pm on 25, November – officially starting the Christmas countdown! There’ll also be Christmas market stalls selling beautiful keepsakes (5 to 7pm Monday to Thursday; 4 to 7pm Friday to Sunday).

At the top of many kids’ (and parents’!) wish lists is the opportunity to meet Santa. At Santa’s Sweet Shop at Island Shangri-La, Santa will be hosting a meet and greet, with a photographer on hand to capture the precious moment on polaroid. Sessions are 10am to 11:30am, 12pm to 3:30pm and 5pm to 9pm daily from Wednesday, 8 December until Saturday, 25 December, 2021. Tickets are $128 and and you’ll need to book your spot in advance.

The hotel will also be hosting storytelling sessions, Christmas decoration workshops, dance performances and carol singers to get your kids into the festive mood.

ifc Mall – Orient Express Christmas decorations

Follow the fascinating legacy of the iconic midnight blue train carriage with the ifc Christmas installation that lets guests relive the journeys of the Orient Express. With a history spanning more than 100 years, it’s a step back in time as you take in the stunning “Grand Central Station”. The installation will be on full display from 22, November 2021.


Tsim sha tsui centre Christmas in Hong Kong

Sino Malls And Lee Tung Avenue – Disney Christmas Decorations

To celebrate the launch of Disney+ in Hong Kong (coming on Monday, 22 November!), Sino Malls, including Olympian City, Tsim Sha Tsui Centre, Empire Centre and more, are decking themselves out in all things Disney. Over at Lee Tung Avenue, it’s the Disney Princesses taking centre stage – there’ll be a music and light show every evening, playing your favourite Disney songs as well as Christmas carols. It wouldn’t be complete without a Christmas tree – a 10-metre high show stopper is a must-visit for your kids!


Mira Place – “Jingle All The Rail” Christmas Decorations

It’s a European rail theme at this year’s Christmas display at Mira Place in Tsim Sha Tsui. You can expect a special Christmas steam train and a 7-metre high ticket office with flashing mirrors. At the centre of it all is a spectacular 4-metre high Christmas Tree.


The Langham – See Santa, carol singers, ballet and more

The Langham is always beautifully decorated for the holidays, and this year is no exception. It’s definitely worth stopping by the hotel in the week leading up to Christmas when there’ll be live carols performed by a choir, a performance by young ballerinas, free mulled wine, and a visit from the big man in red himself!

Traditional Carols: Saturday, 18 to Saturday, 25 December 2021, 6pm. There’s also mulled wine served at 7:05pm
Santa visit: Saturday, 18 to Saturday, 25 December 2021, 12pm and in the evenings

The Peninsula Hong Kong – Classic, iconic Christmas decorations

One of the most classic displays in the city, no Christmas would be complete without a trip to The Peninsula Hotel to check out the impressive decorations. Be sure to have your camera at hand to snap the plethora of dazzling Christmas decorations.

If you really want to get into the Christmas spirit then Hong Kong Disneyland should definitely be close to the top of your list. Not only will you enter into a magical winter wonderland, but the attention to detail here is second to none. The Christmas tree lighting ceremony is always one for the family photo album and the foam snow is an extra special festive touch. Keep a look out for your favourite characters in their Winter best as well! This year, Disney Christmas promises to be extra special as it coincides with the resort’s 15th-anniversary celebrations.
