This Easter Break we decided to stay put and enjoy spring in Hong Kong. It made for a good holiday from the routine filled with lazy days and spontaneous plans. The great weather and the opening of Airplay’s Repulse Bay branch gave me more than enough reason to plan a trip to the Southside for some fun on the beach followed by a session of mother-daughter pampering. This jaunt to the salon was particularly special as it was my daughter’s first. It goes without saying that Aadya is a complete princess and she had a fabulous time getting preened with her mommy. (I know… we are setting ourselves up for some real high maintenance here.)
Airplay exclusively offers blow dry and styling packages for adults and kids at all three of their locations. Airplay’s Southside branch is located on the 2nd floor of The Pulse in Repulse bay. It is a cosy space marked by the signature minimalistic white and lilac décor that is posh yet inviting. We were lucky enough to be the only customers at the time we visited, which made the experience even better. The stylists at Airplay are professional, friendly and gentle in their manner, making you feel relaxed and cared – like a celebrity.
We were welcomed with some tiny bites and apple juice served in tall champagne glasses to add to the glamor quotient. As we sipped on our beverages and nibbled on the snacks, we were given a menu of hairstyles and looks to choose from.
The menu consisted of a host of hairstyles and looks all christened after popular cocktail blends. Aadya chose to get her hair braided while I opted for a hair wash and blow dry for a soft curled look.
For the hair wash I chose a shampoo that best suited my hair type. The shampoos were neatly displayed in shot glasses in keeping with Airplay’s theme as Hong Kong’s only blow dry bar. After the wash, I went on to get my hair styled alongside Aadya who had no problem sitting through her styling, what with Elsa and Anna on the screen in front of her.
Aadya finished with her hair and was given a quick little manicure. Of course she opted for the pink nail colour and was thrilled with the outcome. Airplay only uses products by Lunar Star Naturals for the young ones and their delicate skin. The Moroccan Oil brand of hair products is one of the brands popularised by Airplay. I sampled their Frizz control spray, which was amazing at taming my tresses.
Before I knew it, my hair was done and I was ready to go. I left Airplay with a set of locks that looked and felt worlds apart from what I walked in with. One visit to Airplay and it is absolutely evident why this concept blow dry / styling bar is a saviour from the many bad hair days that plague us here in humid Hong Kong. Next time I am headed out for a special occasion or just feel like a make-over, I will definitely pop into the nearest Airplay for a quick and fantastic make-over, of course with the little one in tow.
Opening Hours: Mon – Thu, 10am-7pm, Fri – Sun, 10am-8pm
