Hong Kong’s resident funny man knows all about the weird and wonderful sides of Hong Kong.

I love hanging out with my son. Whether it’s playing chess, checkers or volunteering at his school on Wednesdays during lunch, there’s so much we do together. Often, joining a game of tag with him and his friends is me reliving my childhood. I’ve even got him interested in stand-up comedy! Together, we love exploring different parts of Hong Kong. These are some of our favourite hangouts. Needless to say, these are great places for the whole family, so mums, aunties and grandparents are always welcome!

1. Shopping At Sham Shui Po

My 8-year-old son Emmett and I absolutely love coming here every couple of months to explore and get specific Lego pieces. You go back in time just by walking along the street and seeing the old buildings that still stand. And you can buy ANYTHING here at amazing prices! For example, if you need a remote control for your 1983 Sanyo VCR, it’s here!

2. Biking Along Stanley Ho Sports Centre Shoreline

We love riding our bikes here as it is a straight road with no cars and not crowded at all. We went to Fanling once to ride bikes and we will never go there again as it was way too crowded! There was lots of pushing, shoving and yelling and that was the last time for us! We’ll stick to the south side of the island, thank you very much!

3. Aberdeen

This local community is the perfect spot for us to explore the wet market and see old Hong Kong. Since we live nearby in Pok Fu Lam, we often come here also for haircuts, lunch or Toys R’ Us. It is great to also walk along the shoreline to see all the old fishing boats and envision that once 30,000 people lived in boats here!

4. Horizon Plaza

We love coming here especially with the wife to shop at places like Whiskers N Paws and Indigo. We recently bought a BBQ grill here so we also shop for meat at Pacific Gourmet, because it has amazing produce and at reasonable prices. Sometimes, Emmett and I like to add to our step count by walking up and down the stairs.

5. Sai Kung

Ever so often, we take a road trip to Sai Kung for great seafood and to get away from the city. You don’t often drive continuously for 45+ minutes in Hong Kong so we appreciate the scenic route to an amazing location. I compare this to driving from Manhattan to The Hamptons in Long Island. After eating one of the best seafood meals we can find, we love walking along the shore and checking out the open market. And as usual, Emmett cons us into buying him a useless toy.

6. Cyberport

We have a black poodle, Sammi, and we love bringing her to run around the dog park at Cyberport. We usually lunch beforehand at Delaney’s and shop at The Fusion supermarket, which is our main market on regular days. Sammi loves running freely without a leash here and loves smelling butts of her friends (I think she got that from seeing me smell Emmett’s butt to check for cleanliness as a toddler!).
