All mamas deserve a little treat once in a while… even more so if it’s something super-convenient, super-glam and easy on the wallet too! We think a Glamabox might be just the thing to perk us up on a monthly basis – a beautifully packaged box of beauty products that arrives direct to your door; it’s like having a birthday every month! Read on for Maura’s full review…

I never intended to fall in love with Glamabox. In fact, I was pretty much unsure of the whole beauty box subscription idea from the get go – a package of sample-sized cosmetics delivered to your door every month?! Of course, the idea of it sounds great if you are a die-hard beauty junkie… but all I could think of when I heard of this concept was the many teeny tiny samples I have accumulated over the years that were sitting in my beauty cabinet just waiting to be used. Not for me I thought, definitely not for me.

Then something happened…

I was given a pretty pink and black Glamabox and the moment it touched my hands I was a goner. The brand is the brainchild of model Lisa S and Jennifer Cheng who both know their stuff about beauty and since the launch of Glamabox, Lisa S has been making it her mission to bring products that she has fallen in love with all over the globe to the homes of Hong Kong girls.

The whole idea is now genius to me and I have been singing its praises ever since I got my hands on their February box (which included a few full-size products – hooray!). If you are a sceptic like me, I dare you to sample one month and make a decision after that. Trust me on this, it is a happy inexpensive treat to yourself, like a birthday present arriving through your letterbox, and only $108 a month!

So here is how it works:

– You log on to Glamabox and create a profile so the team knows your beauty preferences so they can personalise your box of high-end goodies to your specific needs.

– You order your box and it will get delivered straight to your door during the second half of each month. Your box will come wrapped and you will have no idea what is in it until the moment you open it. Expect to receive 4-5 unique products a month along with some beauty vouchers to use as well.

– If you find something you adore (for me, it was this fab Talika lip gloss from Paris – one end was a teeth-whitener and the other a juicy gloss, something I’d never seen before in HK; in December, it was an Elishacoy snail serum that, despite sounding a little scary, actually seemed to make my skin smoother and softer) you can order it on the Glamashop so there is never a risk of falling in love with something only to find you can’t get it in Hong Kong.

There are various subscription levels but the monthly option costs $108 dollars a month and it gets cheaper if you purchase a longer subscription. You can also send Glamabox as a gift, which I think is so fun and unique. I am sure none of my friends would say no thanks to receiving a beauty package each month!

It’s also worth noting that, unlike some of the other beauty boxes on the market in HK, Glamabox also includes health-related food items. The February box included a Stephen James organic cereal bar and a few bottles of the cult Japanese beauty drink, Chocola BB, which is supposed to do wonders for your skin. Including food items is either something you’re going to love or feel totally indifferent to, but personally I like that Glamabox is being a bit different and that it gives you a little taster of things you might not try or even glance at left to your own devices!

I would be interested to know what you think about this concept. Love it, hate it? Are you thinking about ordering a box? If you do, let us know if you like it when it arrives!
