So today little J went to her first big-kid birthday party… Hong Kong style. Many of you probably know what this means, but for the uninitiated let’s just say moms in this town do it up. We’re talking clowns, games, fancy grown-up food, finger food for the kiddies, not 1 but 2 pinatas…I was more or less equallyin awe of and totally freaked out by the power mom who threw this bash…though her mother-in-law did let it slip that she was up until 1:30am putting the finishing touches on the goodie bags. Have you heard of this HK phenomenon?? Let’s just say that the goodie bag was worth more than the gift I brought (2 fantastic books from the “If you give a mouse a cookie” series – love ‘em!). Anyway, the goodie bag was actually a nice wicker basket – personalized – and inside were all sorts of..well, goodies. A book, some fancy organic cookies (2 packs), a cool maraca, a painted initial “J” ….it was nuts. And just a wee bit intimidating….
So on that note, I thought I’d pass along a clever site that makes themed birthday parties go off without a hitch. Enter Paper and Cake and their printable partyware. These uniquely-designed, themed-party collections can be easily personalized…and are printed out at home. Plus they are SUPER affordable – under US$15 (!).
Themes include pirates, Alice in Wonderland, race cars, space explorers… They also have a very chic selection of themes for baby showers, ladies luncheons, wine tastings, etc. Included in each ‘kit’ is everything you need from invites to thank you notes – gift tags, napkin rings, door signs, menu cards, cupcake wrappers, party food labels, kiddie games… Genius!
