Let the summer fun begin!
Summer holidays are a joy to behold, but if the thought of entertaining the kids for weeks on end seems a little daunting, don’t fear! We’ve scoured the options and created your ultimate guide to the 2019 summer camps happening here in Hong Kong. From sports to the stage, language to tech, you’re sure to find something to keep your bundles of joy happy, content and stimulated.
Creativity and Performing Arts
If you’ve got mini drama kings or queens in your household, indulge their passion and give them an outlet to express themselves! Faust’s popular Summer Theatre (ages 3 to 14) and Creative Writing (ages 6 to 13) programmes are back and promise to be bigger and better, with workshops being held in Tai Wai, Sha Tin for the first time ever. Under the guidance of expert teachers, kids will enjoy an action-packed summer of drama, creativity and plenty of fun. Each of its week-long programmes (with fresh content each week to inspire more imagination!) are designed to give children a boost of creativity and confidence in their skills.
In a fun-filled, relaxed environment your children will not only learn about theatre but also develop greater self-confidence, hone their skills and make new friends as they work on perfecting their art as a team. In every Summer Theatre workshop, there will be an open session at the end of the week for parents and friends to see the progress made, while older learners will demonstrate their skills and knowledge at the end of week performance. If writing is more your child’s thing, try the Summer Creative Writing course to unlock their potential. Students will express themselves through writing, develop their imagination and enrich their skills in an interactive tutorial environment, before taking home a portfolio of work at the end of the week. As a bonus, register for any of the summer camp options before May 17th and save 10% on all registration fees!

Art Loop is an art school dedicated to children from 3 to 18 years, as well as adults. The school believes that art is a process, not a product. This unique approach emphasises on giving children the freedom to creatively express themselves, by teaching them how to think conceptually and develop their problem-solving skills. Art theory and appreciation are included in its regular Academy Art programme, while its summer workshops have interesting themes such as Masters of Art (learning about and drawing inspiration from Van Gogh, Monet, Warhol and more), Summer Sculptures (perfect for kids who like to get hands-on with 3D art), and Ceramics (clay modelling and glazing for even beginner-level sculptors). Students learn the history behind each featured artist and understand how different techniques have influenced art today. Besides illustration and painting, children learn and explore the use of different mediums, such as ceramics, paper mache and mixed media. Art Loop is running summer workshops this year from Monday, 17 June to Friday, 16 August. Each 5-day workshop starts at $1,850.
What’s really novel about this art studio is that it is completely transparent. Parents can watch their junior Da Vincis at work and observe their unique artistry. The students can also observe each other and the more mature artists. This is very inspiring for any little one with a creative mind.
Use the code “Sassy Art Loop” to get 10% off summer workshops if booking before Saturday, 8 June 2019. You also get a $200 Art Loop coupon to enrol for the regular Academy Art classes.

The Entrepreneurship Summer Camp is one is for all the little CEOs and VPs out there! Kids will be given their own position within their company (CEO, CFO, CMO, etc) and get the chance to run their own businesses and budgets. Children will practice negotiation, persuasion, communication and presentation skills when they pitch to “investors”, present their promotional commercials and sell their products in their own sales bazaar, which is always a huge hit. While having fun and getting creative, students will build their leadership, communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills. These camps are also a great way to teach kids about budgets and the financial world. They’ll become financially literate while also learning to manage their money (well, let’s face it, your money!) better.
Gone are the days when learning a new language meant sitting in an old stuffy classroom, reciting from a tatty textbook, repeating what the teacher said in one long monotonous drone (sound familiar?). Thankfully, language classes have moved on somewhat since our time, well they have at Mini Mandarins at least! They say the best way to learn a language is to practice, practice, practice, but the learning experience is also elevated when immersed in real-life situations. This summer your little one can practice their Mandarin by stepping into the real-world and Mandarin-speaking scenarios – without having to leave the city!
Mini Mandarins has developed its own, extremely impressive “Mini Metro”, which allows for imaginative and interactive play within the kid-sized supermarket, construction site, a cha chaan teng, salon, farm and restaurant among other areas; so your kid can chat away in Putonghua as they go about their day. Not only is this adorable (and we mean seriously cute, especially when they dress up in relevant work attire!) but it’s an incredibly effective way for kids to connect with the language. This year, it’s collaborating with Green Common to bring a store filled with fun and nutritional knowledge about Green Monday, as well as a car repairs shop (in collaboration with Meguiar’s Hong Kong) to help young innovators to discover the amazing world of engineering by making connections between real-world problems, communities and daily lives. Kids will have a fantastic time without even realising they’re developing their literacy of science, math and Mandarin language skills.
Sassy Mama readers can get an exclusive 10% off on the 2019 Mini Mandarins Summer Programme by using the discount code SASSYMM2019 when enrolling.
