We’re back with another great list of free things for you to do with your family this month, because everyone who’s got kids know “free” is our favourite price point! With Dragon Boat Races, Sunday markets, storytelling and more, here’s our pick of free things to do with your kids this month.

Dragon And Lion Dance

Cultural Demonstrations

Learn from the masters on how to do a lion or dragon dance, and take part in learning different martial art disciplines at this weekly demonstration. Held Sundays in Kowloon Park, you can then stroll around the beautiful greens for a relaxing afternoon outdoors with the family.

When: Sundays from 2:30pm to 4:30pm

Baseball For All Fun Day

Hong Kong Baseball Association (HKBA) has organised a Baseball For All Fun Day. The event will feature demonstrations and free trails, and will introduce baseball novices to modified baseball games  including Baseball 5, Baseball6 and Wheelchair Baseball. The event is free, but all pre-registered participants will receive a free gift on a first come, first serve basis.

When: 9 June, 10am to 5pm

Chinmaya Carnival

Living in Hong Kong means we are surrounded by diversity, and the Chinmaya Carnival is one way for your kids to have a fabulous day out while learning about Indian culture. There will be games, storytelling, food, yoga sessions, dancing and even some shopping (okay, that part isn’t free but…). This is for all ages and a fun way to spend the day out.

When: 10 June from 1pm to 6pm

Discovery Bay Sunday Market

Discovery Bay Sunday Market

The market itself is free, but what you choose to get while there is up to you! Local, independent vendors will showcase their unique items here, which means you can check out everything from handmade bags, jewellery, homeware items, fine art, stationery and paper crafts and even children’s accessories.

When: 10 June from 11am to 6pm
Where: Discovery Bay Plaza, 92 & 96 Discovery Bay Rd, Discovery Bay, Lantau Island, Hong Kong

Tai O Water Parade

Watch the sleepy town of Tai O come alive during its yearly Water Parade. Colourful sampans that have been decorated just for the event will be on display, along with different ceremonies and a Dragon Boat race.

We’ve compiled a list of all the great Dragon Boat Races and festivities for families, so be sure to check out our article here. The races are super family friendly and a fun way for kids to get a peek at Hong Kong’s favourite races.

Absolutely Fabulous Children’s Storytelling

Little bookworms age 3 to 10 years can plop themselves down and listen as 12 Aesop’s Fables are read to them at this storytelling event in Lee Garden. Favourite tales presented will include The Hare and the Tortoise, The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing, The Peacock and the Crane, and more. English-speaking actors will retell the stories with a twist!

When: 23 and 24 June at 1pm and 2pm

Guided Tour Of Botanical Gardens

If you and your family prefer to be outside, enjoy a day at the Botanical Gardens learning about the various foliage and animals living there. (Note: This two-hour tour is held in Cantonese only.) If you don’t speak Cantonese, the Botanical Gardens are still a relaxing, beautiful place to chill out and spend some time together.

When: Every Sunday until 31 December from 10:30am to 12:30pm
Where: Education and Exhibition Centre, Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens, Albany Rd, Central, Hong Kong
